Tecnicar team sealed a progressing weekend in the last round of the Formula Winter Series, in Barcelona. Lorenzo Castillo had a round with many problems, which he was able to overcome in the best way, and Wiktor Dobrzański proved to be constant and put into practice his learning throughout the winter campaign.
Facing the last stop of the Formula Winter Series, at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, as the fourth round of the winter championship, Tecnicar brought expectations to resurface after leaving behind an unfortunate weekend at the Motorland Aragon Circuit.
As has been usual throughout the championship, both Lorenzo Castillo and Wiktor Dobrzański were going to face this last winter round for the team, eager to put into practice what they had learned in Aragon.
The weekend started on Thursday, with two test sessions, complemented by two more sessions on Friday, conditioned by the humidity on the track. However, these sessions were to gain importance on Saturday after the main qualifying session could not be held due to the difficult weather conditions.
Taking the combined results of the two Friday test sessions, Tecnicar lined-up its two drivers in P31 and P34 for Dobrzański and Castillo, respectively. The first race was also affected by the heavy rain, and made the race start under the Safety Car, to only take two laps and see the red flag that would end a fateful Saturday.
The day that was aiming to see the end of the winter championship, saw the sunrise after a rainy Saturday. The qualifying session could be disputed normally and ordered the Tecnicar drivers in P24 for Castillo, and P35 for Dobrzański, for the third race. For the second race, the grid took the second best times of the same session, leaving Castillo in P26, and Dobrzański in P35.
In the second race, and first of the weekend, Lorenzo Castillo had to retire on the first lap after fighting with other drivers at the start. Wiktor Dobrzańsk had a progressive performance that left him in P29, keeping the pace with the upper times.
The third race of the weekend was action-packed with up to three Safety Car on track. Castillo had a problem at the first start, and that led him to start from the Pit Lane, however, he was able to move up a few positions and finish in P27. Dobrzański, on the other hand, put in one of his most consistent performances to finish the last round of the Formula Winter Series in P25.
Wiktor Dobrzański:
“I gained a lot of experience and confidence in these four rounds of the Formula Winter Series, with some close battles as well, I really enjoyed them. This last round in Barcelona, especially, gave me a lot of confidence, and I think that I reached our goal for this Formula Winter Series. I’m excited to begin the season in Madrid”.
Lorenzo Castillo:
“It has been a misfortunate weekend for us. Barely no racing on Saturday, and then a lot of problems on Sunday, didn’t let us put into practice our plan, but still confident on the pace we have, and ready to go racing in May”.
